What a way to kick off the summer! There was much excited energy as everyone arrived and met their new camp friends. After settling in to cabins, we all took our swim tests in the beautiful Crystal Lake. Even the afternoon summer rain couldn’t dampen our enthusiasm, and we dove right in!
Eventually both boys and girls headed to Alford Hall to wait for dinner, and played spontaneous get-to-know-you games. At one point we had the entire camp, all ages, playing “Zip Zop”, a hilarious game where the last one to make it without laughing wins.
The silliness didn’t end there though. We lined up outside for an official camp welcome from the Director, and then our Assistant Director led us in a goofy song involving bananas, mullets and cows.
After a delicious dinner of pizza and ice cream, we had a visitor come to Alford Hall to teach us about the barn – a yearling Appaloosa horse! We all were very attentive as the barn staff and “Cocoa”, the yearling, told us all about the barn and some of its special rules.
Then we gathered in our separate boys and girls camps for some bonding time, going over general rules, and getting to know our cabinmates better.
