TMCYouth activity, classes, & cabin cookouts

Today, we had 2 staff from TMCYouth arrive in order to lead an activity with all of camp on the 10 Commandments.  After an opening talk by the TMCYouth lead, Susie Jostyn, campers broke up into small groups and engaged in discussions about each of the 10 Commandments.  After talking about the 10th Commandment, “Thou shalt not covet;” everyone had the opportunity to work on painting a mural that TMCYouth brought with them.  You can see a picture here, and more are on our photo site.  The image is of a person who is embracing their innocent, natural spiritual self and sharing their light with the world.

That activity took up the morning.  After lunch and a well-deserved rest hour, everyone went to 2 hours of afternoon classes.  As it was another beautiful sunny summer day, the waterfront was a very popular option!  Many boats were out on the lake, and the lake was teeming with happy campers.

The end of the afternoon saw us wrapping up the discussion on the 10 Commandments, and the final opportunity to paint.  We’re still deciding where to put the mural, as it’s quite large!  About 8 x 20 (yes, that’s feet!).  If you have a suggestion where we can hang it at camp, let us know 🙂

Upon wrapping up the mural, cabin groups got together, and then headed out for cookouts!  That’s where each cabin cooks their dinner over a fire somewhere around camp.  Most cabins hike a short (less than 1/2 mile) distance to their cookout spot, and cook a pasta dinner over the fire.  Then they hang out together and bond as a group.  The bonding really helps to forge deep friendships and also provides a base for living harmoniously for the next 10 days.
