Many times we ask ourselves, I wonder where they went off to? What’s my friend’s life like now? Have they changed? Do they look the same as we last remember them? How far could they have run off to? Will they hear my call and come back to me? Haha.
Well, no more wondering! JOIN US as we catch up with 3 year-round DOGS!
LUCY! Laurea & Ian McLeland’s – former everything/former Asst. Director
What was life like being one of only three dogs on property year round, as a pack?
Katie & Kona were my best friends at camp, and I know we’ll always be like that, no matter how long it is between when we get to see each other. We PawTime almost every week, though.
If you were to visit camp again, what 3 things would you do first?!
1. Jump in the lake/slide on the ice, depending on time of year 2. find the food scrap pile and chow DOWN. 3. ultimate frisbee.
How did you handle the change when you moved to Chicago? Do you feel more like a city dog, a suburbs dog, or are you still a country dawg?!
You know what they say, you can take the dog off the mountain, but.. The city is great because you get to be so social. I meet different friends almost every day in the park, but I also have the regular crew of homies to chill with. But there’s nothing like having a thousand acres of heaven right outside your door where you can just lose yourself for hours.
Found any new parks you really enjoy?
The day after we moved in, I took Ian to the park a couple blocks away and right away we made friends running around. It’s a 55-acre park, so it’s not as big as home (camp), but there’s still plenty of places to smell.
Do you cut your hair more often? Do you style it?! Do you wear fancier collars or leashes? What’s your style like now?!
I actually get fewer baths now because I don’t find as many dead things to roll in anymore.
Do dog treats taste better in the city? Are there more selections?
Oh my gosh, the treats are EVERYWHERE, especially in the summer! I’ll just be walking Ian down the street, and there’ll be a whole bowl of them, right on the corner! Of course, I only take just one because there are a lot of other people who’d like some too.
Who do you wanna give a shout out to, or rather a bark out to?
Casey Swan, cause we’re like sisters but from different parents! Yeah, we’re that tight.
What do you take your owners out for?!
Sniffs. He’s still not that into them, but I’ll keep working on it.

What do you remember the most about camp?!
Stargazing and watching my dad swim in the lake! Of course, sitting on the porch of Dunwoody too. I like those Dunwoodians, even when they stick their fingers in my nostrils.
What was life like being one of only three dogs on property year round, as a pack?
Well even though I sometimes wanted to just hang out with mom and dad, Lucy was always able to get me to play! Katie, we’ll she’ll always be like my sister, so grateful to have her companionship!
How did you handle the change when you moved to Boston? Have you made any new friends in the city?
I have so many friends! Dogs are everywhere, and while I had to get a little more stylish to fit in, I think the change has been good!
Do you feel different having moved?
Life is good, forward progress in life is always a positive – it’s bringing new challenges and some great times 🙂
How do you feel Dog… excuse me… God has prepared you for your move and your new life?
Hand in paw, He’s leading the way!
If you were to visit camp again, what 3 things you would do first?!
Mark a tree, roll in dirt, nap.
Who do you wanna give a shout out to, or rather a bark out to?
My man Scott, always a Milkbone at the ready, thanks bro!
Do you cut your hair more often? Do you style it?! Do you wear fancier collars or leashes? What’s your style like now?!
Oh man, I like goooood!!!
Do dog treats taste better in the city? Are there more selections?
I’ve never been picky – food is food, but I do miss Kathy’s Cafe!
What do you take your owners out for?!
I often take them to The Cheesecake Factory.
If there was one tip you could leave for Katie Kisses while she continues to stay on and live at camp year-round, what would it be?
Live it up! CLC is the place to be!
What’s your favorite restaurant?!
Arby’s
Bye everybody!

What was life like being one of only three dogs on property year round, as a pack?
I always loved hanging out with my two best friends Lucy and Kona! We went everywhere, putting our noses in everything, it was great!
How did you handle the change when Lucy moved to Chicago and Kona moved to Boston? Do you ever feel like you want to be a city dog, a suburbs dog, or will you always be a country dawg?!
Well, I definitely missed them and still do! I hope they come back to visit as soon as possible. When they left, I knew I had to really hold down the fort at camp, and I do. I maintain the grounds by telling my owner/dad Scott what needs to be fixed and I make sure most people who come into or around the office get a smile, and sometimes I even get a free pet out of it and oh boy that feels good! I am and always will be a country dog at heart. I do sometimes like the city dresses and the outfits, they’re fun! But I also like not wearing anything but my coat. That’s how I usually dress.
Made any new friends at camp? Found any new parts of the property you really enjoy?
Oh, I’m always making new friends, squirrels, chipmunks, woodpeckers, mice, all sorts of new friends. We usually just give each other friendly glances when we see each other again, but then they have to run off again for some reason. I’ve tried with porcupines, but I’m still not so sure about those guys, not sure they’re so cuddly, not sure I can bump up against them like we’re buddies, but I’m trying. Well, with Crystal Lake frozen now Lila, Jake, and Toby, other friends of mine, visited and we all went running around on the lake, it was so much fun! I want to learn to ice skate! But for now my belly works fine for gliding.
If Lucy and Kona were to visit camp again, what 3 things would you do first?!
I’d show them all the smelly things I’ve found over the time they’ve been gone! We’d run at each other and take turns letting each other run around the other, barking as loud as we can! So fun, I miss that. Lastly, I would show them all the best napping spots. There’s so many and probably tons they haven’t experienced yet, plus so many things to roll in nearby! We’d have a blast.
Who do you wanna give a shout out to, or rather a bark out to?
Ellen! British Ellen! I don’t know her last name, or at least I don’t remember hearing it, but she’s the one from England, she always keeps me company on my walks! Sometimes she and I go really slow, or maybe all the time, but we go around the lake and sniff as many things as possible. We always have a good time.
Do you cut your hair more often? Do you style it?! Do you wear fancier collars or leashes? What’s your style like now?!
No, I’m a country dog remember! Gotta let it grow! Yeah, sometimes I rub something in it or rub up against something to style it. Sometimes, especially when Kona and Lucy visit! I love showing them what I know about the cities! Sometimes I do get a new collar, but every time I get a bath I always look so pretty people tell me, cause I put on my best, new pink bandana from the place where I go to get cleaned or my dad put’s one on me. I love him. Well now, now I still just wear my coat, but I’m always open and looking for a new style when Lucy and Kona come into town so we have something to bark about besides when we’re running around together.
Do dog treats taste better in the country? Are there more selections?
Oh sure! There’s always treats everywhere! But sometimes the treats I find in the woods others say I shouldn’t eat cause they’re not exactly treats, but I disagree, plus my dad lets me enjoy them, so might as well keep on eatin’ them! Of course the ones my dad brings me are the best! I’ll lie down or sit for those ones any day! I do hope to try some in the city some day!
What do you take your owners out for?!
Well, my dad let’s me have my space, but he keeps an eye on me. But, sometimes we take long trips together! I’ll just hop in the car, he’ll grab his things, and we’ll hit the road in his big truck, so comfy and plenty of space to stretch out. I just tell him to keep going!
WELL, there ya go! That’s our latest news on the some of the dogs who guided their owners around camp for years, our silent leaders. For that we pawlute them! Hmm, might be a better word, that’s a ruff one. Oh well, ’til next time!
