Crystal Lake Camps is so pleased to welcome BJ Thompson, as our new Camp Director!BJ hails from Dallas, Texas. A Primary Class-taught Christian Scientist, BJ grew up active in DiscoveryBound, fulfilling the office of President of the Dallas-Fort Worth chapter for two years. He was also very active in Boy Scouts, ultimately attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. As Senior Patrol Leader for one year in scouts, he planned and led a camp-out every month for his troop of around 75 boys. He spent many of his summers at Cedars Camps, a camp for Christian Scientists in Missouri, as a camper, JL, Worker, CIP, and Senior Counselor.During High School, BJ was in the Marching Band, pole vaulted, and rock climbed. His senior year he was the Quad Captain for DrumLine, and part of the Mustang Stampede, a country-western dance and stunt team.
After high school, BJ headed to Texas A&M for three years in the Electrical Engineering program. While there he became a Master Scuba Diver trainer, teaching Scuba Diving lessons at the school’s recreation center as well as teaching and working as a climbing instructor at the rock wall on campus.Throughout college BJ was active in the Christian Science Organization on campus, acting as Treasurer his first year. His second year he was GAD chair, which is an annual weekend event that the Texas A&M CSO puts on for high school and college age Christian Scientists around Texas. For a year he worked as a TMCYouth Regional Representative organizing and helping the CSOs in Texas and surrounding states. He studied abroad in Qatar for a semester and then took part in the Disney College Program as a life guard at Typhoon Lagoon at Disney World. After returning to A&M, he determined that Electrical Engineering was not for him. He took a few months working out at Cedars Camps during the off season, then headed back down to Orlando, Florida, and obtained a job as a Front Desk agent at Omni Champions Gate Resort. He finished up his degree at Devry with a Bachelors in Technical Management while working in Orlando. After a little over a year he returned home to Dallas with a promotion to the title of “Leader In Development” at Omni Dallas, where he has spent the last 8 months in a hotel management program with Omni.BJ’s hobbies include making things out of Duct Tape and sculpting chocolate. We are excited to have him join us beginning May 1st! He will be here for the spring clean-up weekend, so we hope many of you will be here to meet him then.
