“To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings. The wakeful shepherd
beholds the first faint morning beams, ere cometh the full radiance of a risen day” ~Science & Health vii
Even though the morning beams where hidden by gray skies and rain yesterday, not even the steady, persistent rainfall kept the birds from singing as the morning began to unfold. This same joyful attitude also enveloped the staff members as everyone gathered for breakfast, dressed in boots, rain gear, and carrying umbrellas no one seemed to pay attention to the weather. Even though the forecast said otherwise, Joy, Love, Hope, and Excitement shone throughout every counselor and staff member because the day the campers would arrive finally came!
We have been preparing ourselves to receive children with open arms to welcome them into the Crystal Lake Camp family for the past two weeks. I have not been to this camp since 2004 and can say with confidence that the welcoming sense of home and family still outshines any gray day where all are welcome no matter who you are, where you are from, or if you are new to camp or returning for another summer.
I watched several children eagerly meet their old friends and counselors and greet new cabin members and staff with open arms even though the rain drizzled on. Conversations such as “Hey! It’s so good to see you! Sorry I’m wet but I am going to hug you anyway!” “Oh I don’t mind!” were heard as hugs were exchanged in the rain without umbrellas or raincoats. This was a true example of “Love inspires, illumines, designates and leads the way” (MBE). The overflowing amount of love and excitement created the perfect sunny atmosphere amidst the otherwise dreary conditions.
In starting to cultivate a family for the following session, I was reminded of this quote from the Bible, “Fear not little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the Kingdom” (Luke 12:32). As shepherds guiding our little flocks, we are guided by our Father Mother God who in turn, guides us all. Therefore, no matter what the challenge seems to be, the Kingdom is given to us with infinite possibilities and no limitations will interfere with our progress this summer as we are all governed by our one true source, God.
Heather, Zoe, and I – your summer 2015 bloggers – are so excited to see how this summer unfolds and can’t wait to tell you all about it here on the blog. Check in tomorrow to hear all about tonight’s activity fair where campers pick out their classes and also about our traditional camp barn dance!
Love,
Megan
