It’s a new week here at CLC, and with our head staff working hard to prep for the summer, we have been spending our quiet times together reading the new lesson for the week Is The Universe, Including Man, Evolved By Atomic Force? We had a great discussion this morning while reading the first two sections of the lesson, and we found that this week’s lesson goes along perfectly with how we are metaphysically preparing for camp using this summer’s theme: “The Divine Mind is the Soul of man, and gives man dominion over all things” (S&H 307 25-26).
When a lot of us look back on our time as campers here at CLC, we all have fond memories of our counsellors helping us to see our full potential and strength in Christian Science. Christian Science is in the forethought of every camper and staff’s mind whenever we start classes with metaphysical, start our meals with a prayer, and start our days with Quiet Hour where we read the lesson together as a cabin before starting our day. To establish our day in God’s hands before our feet even touch the cool wooden floors of our cabin is a big part of what makes CLC so great.
Today during our quiet time, we were talking about the quote in the second marker of the Science & Health saying, “God, who made all that was made and could not create an atom or an element the opposite of himself” (583:24 God). When thinking of all that God’s created, it oftentimes blows our minds to see all His wondrous works coming to fruition in such a harmonious way – as they should, of course. It’s always so refreshing stepping back onto camp property and seeing the calmness of the lake during the day and the sun shining on the trees. I’ve been getting up around 5:30 each morning to go for a run as the camp is washed in a soft blue as the sun rises, and the fog off the lake could make any out of breath running still at ease. God’s majesty surely is at work here.
There’s only a handful here for Head Staff Week, and we’ve been working together closely in the past couple days to take care of tasks around the property and spend time talking about the theme and our exciting expectations for this summer. We’ve been cooking in the lodge kitchen for one another each meal, and all jamming together around that long wooden table in the back of the lodge to all eat together. Working closely as a family unit has helped us to all share our thoughts for what we expect for the summer and the unfoldment we are excited to experience ourselves and share with others.
In the first Bible marker, 1 Chronicles 29:12 in states: “In thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great and to give strength unto all.” We talked about this citation during our quiet time in regards to our counsellors and campers this summer. One of the things I so clearly recall about my time as a camper is seeing the spiritual confidence and at ease my counsellors possessed when talking and working with Christian Science. To me, my counsellors seemed to hold all this power and might that 1 Chronicles alludes to, but what my counsellors in turn then taught me was that I too also had the power and might bestowed upon me to “give strength to all.”
This directly correlates with what Mrs. Eddy says in marker nine of the Science & Health in Section 2 when she writes, “Christian Science presents unfoldment.” We are so looking forward to working with our campers and staff this summer to remind them and shine a light on their spiritual unfoldment which they already possess. Our Rocks and Ropes staff will be arriving today, and we are so excited to reunite with them and watch as they sore high above the trees to prepare the ropes course and rock wall for our campers this summer. Staff Week is coming soon, and we can’t wait to share with you the progress we have made to help make this summer a blast!
