DiscoveryBound’s Tahoe Teen Weekend

“Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness.” – Psalms 48:1

In the beautiful Tahoe mountains, DiscoveryBound’s Outreach Program led a ski weekend for teens with the metaphysical theme provided above. We had a small group: 6 participants, 2 chaperones, a Christian Science Practitioner, and the DiscoveryBound event leader. The ten of us stayed at the Granlibakken just outside of Tahoe City and were graciously taken care of by the friendly staff.

We kicked off our weekend by joining together and watching the DiscoveryBound and all-camp videos in addition to

playing some name games. The participants spanned in ages starting in 8th grade going up to 11th, they all came from different parts of California, and many did not know each other! Just after a few hours together, we all felt like a close-knit family and were excited for the adventures to come.

We spent Saturday at Granlibakken. After a huge buffet breakfast, we split up for Bible Lesson Study and then came back together to play games, including viper tag and cow tag: a favorite for sure. Games were followed by an amazing inspirational talk given by Carrie Curlee, the Practitioner for the weekend. She spoke about translation of ideas into our native spiritual language.

Granlibakken has a small sledding hill, so we started our afternoon by bundling up and sledding. Afterwards, we spent some time relaxing by the pool. The kids enjoyed eating icicles in the hot tub and playing 20 questions. Due to our ski schedule, we decided to have Sunday School classes on Saturday evening! It was great sharing ideas and getting to address some issues together. More cow tag and an intense game of mafia wrapped up our evening.

With an early morning start, we headed to Sugar Bowl: a local ski hill. Despite differing skill levels, our group decided to ski and snowboard together! It was a blast exploring the mountain, going down different runs, and spending some time in the beautiful Tahoe mountains.

It was clear that we had all gotten to know each other quite well throughout the weekend, and enjoyed being together. We had become very close and even made nicknames for everyone! All of the participants were very encouraging of one another and the day was filled with smiles and laughter. We are all extremely grateful for DiscoveryBound for organizing this weekend and providing us with the opportunity to live Love and recognize God’s beauty everywhere.
